A report has suggested that the PlayStation 4 will support 4K resolution playback.
According to an anonymous source, the PlayStation 3's successor will support the resolution in order for Sony's plan to help popularize 4K televisions. The firm hopes to adopt a similar strategy that saw the PlayStation 3 initially spearheading the Blu-ray market.
4K supports a resolution of up to 4096 x 3072, with its name stemming from the horizontal resolution as opposed to the vertical resolution that's attached with 720p and 1080p.
Sony, who has already started to sell 4K Blu-ray players, is reportedly planning to launch 80-inch XBR LED television that sports a 4K resolution.
