Shouldn't demos be released before the game is released

Some might even argue that releasing a demo before the game is a bad thing. If someone is borderline about the game and plays a bad demo, they are less likely to go buy it compared to someone who hasnt played the game and hopes they made a wise investment.

I rented the game and find it quite amusing. I'd recommend trying it out if you haven't already.

They used to be, these days they are used to entice those that were sat on the fence. It's a business model that makes sense as well given that so many people will watch a trailer and instantly decide "i'm buying that", those people don't need a demo and if anything a demo could do more damage than good. A post release demo just gathers up those that aren't convinced and tries to convince them.

chautemoc - That demo was really quite fun.. I may have to pick it up when I have the money. I was most impressed by the visuals, it's a very pretty game and it ran rather well on my system which was nice.

The primary reason demos are released after the game is is because the developer is strapped enough for time as is, and have to put all resources into getting the game out on time in a relatively polished state. After that's taken care of, they begin to work on the demo. There are cases of course where extra time is available and the demo is released beforehand.

Glad you liked it. Agreed - it's incredibly good looking on PC.
