Rumor: Fallout 4 taking place in Boston
Muties in Hahvahd Yahd a possibility
A new Fallout 4 rumor has surfaced that sets the unannounced RPG in Boston, Massachusetts.
Boston has been a rumored location for Fallout 4 ever since certain characters in Fallout 3 mentioned "The Commonwealth" and "The Institute." Both are references to the New England state, with the Institute as the likely post-apocalyptic name for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
A Reddit user named "Fallout4Boston" is claiming that the Boston rumor for Fallout 4 is true since Bethesda has been "scoping out and researching" the city and has a connection to MIT. Why do we care what the Reddit user is saying? Because he or she could be an employee there. The anonymous user wouldn't confirm or deny with any more than hints for fear of being sued, but was adamant the next Fallout title is in Boston.
Bethesda has declined to comment on the rumor, although it would be very interesting if proven true. The Fallout universe calls the Commonwealth "a war-ravaged quagmire of violence and despair like much of the rest of the former United States, but it is also where the mysterious Institute is located." The Institute is home to a group of scientists and advanced pre-war technology. These scientists were able to create true artificial intelligence and androids/synthetic humans, which we saw in a specific Fallout 3 quest.
The Commonwealth is also home to an organization called "The Railroad," which directly opposes the Institute. The Railroad takes its name from the Underground Railroad and functions in much the same way by helping to rescue the androids of the Institute. The Railroad also opposes slavery of all kinds, but its main focus is the slavery of the synthetic humans. The Commonwealth Police has a branch called the Synth Retention Bureau, which is tasked with finding the escaped androids.
Fallout 4's possible location remains a rumor for now, but the history of and clues in Fallout 3 certainly point to the Boston area. Hopefully we'll learn more about the game soon and just what Bethesda has in store.

Think Tribal super mutants, volcanoes, creepy 50's lou and surfer culture, plenty of caves, pearl harbor, murky swamps. Okay murky swamps sound annoying but think about how awesome it would be to travel from island to island and visit new Honoloulou.
I'm excited for Boston, I've seen enough of the West through New Vegas.
Honestly, stop whinging about where you want the game and just trust BethSoft. As long as they keep the game away from Obsidian, I don't care where they set it.
As for Boston, eh... I'm ok with this as a location. Not huge on the whole Android thing, sounds like it'll move too far from the Noire 50's styling I love in Fallout. But I have faith in Beth nonetheless.
Honestly that word gets thrown around waaaay to much these days.
I take it you prefer fallout 3?
