Apparently everything we've been told is a lie, because the world did in fact not end with me, it ends when Square Enix wants it to. Square Enix has launched a brand new countdown site, as Japanese studios love to do, teasing the announcement of a The World Ends With You sequel. While the game's name isn't directly referenced on the website, the countdown font and a reference to the Japanese title in the URL make this all but official -- The World Ends With Two is in development.
Those who woke up from the acid-trip that was the original The World Ends With You with their memories intact likely fondly recall the Nintendo DS title. Its mixture of classic Japanese story-telling insanity, action RPG combat and high-fashion sensibilities (you wore those pants on a Wednesday? what is wrong with you) were truly unique, another surprisingly memorable title on the DS. Expect the sequel to step things up; Square wouldn't bring the franchise back without having something ridiculous in mind, right?
6 days, 15 hours and 56 minutes reads the countdown website, which you can check out for some totally hip and rude music. Square Enix and The World Ends With You artist Tetsuya Nomura have been teasing this for a while now, such as the addition of TWEWY characters in Kingdom Hearts 3D. Time to bring out your favorite pins, nerds, the game begins anew.
Thanks for the tip, Ded Valve.
