Son'y press conference at gamecom is only just getting underway, and already we have our first major announcement. We have Media Molecule's follow-up to LittleBigPlanet, made specifically for the Vita: introducing Tearaway. Tearaway is an adventure platformer where you take on the role of Iota in a world made of paper. Iota is a deliveryman on special assignment, and you'll help him by using the interactive features of the PlayStation Vita.
What sort of features? Well, in the demo being shown we were shown tapping on the the Vita's back screen to launch Iota into the air, touching the back-screen, forcing your finger into the world to move objects and attack enemies, blowing on the screen to create a wind effect, and tilting the screen so Iota's world is flipped on its side. Tearaway's best feature, however, is its beautiful visual style. We're talking Okami's painting or Kirby's Epic Yarn tier of style and artistic quality.
This is Media Molecule, after all, one of the leading innovators on consoles right now. It's apparent they've got a lot of great ideas for the Vita, and have been very excited about starting a new IP. Vita owners, it's time to get excited, because Sony's got great plans ahead. Expect a trailer and hopefully some screenshots later today, as we receive them.
