PlayStation Vita sales at "an acceptable number", says SCEA president
Jack Tretton feels "much better" about Vita sales now than he did four months ago
SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton has claimed that the amount of PlayStation Vitas sold thus far has been at "an acceptable number".
With Sony Corporation's president and CEO Kaz Hirai admitting the PSP's successor was performing below expectations regarding its commercial performance, Tretton still believes the amount of Vitas sold is apparently "acceptable". In fact, he feels "much better" about the platform's sales than he did four months ago.
"In this industry, you can’t get too high or too low, because it moves very quickly. I think there’s an acceptable number – and [the number] we’ve sold: That’s acceptable. If it was triple that, I’d be happier. If it was one-third, I’d be disappointed.
"Anything with great rewards is going to come with great challenges. We felt if the tech was there, and the game support was there, then the audience would be there. … I feel much better about it now than I did four months ago."
Hirai had previously said that Sony's games division is one of the three core pillars that is crucial to positively affect the company's financial situation. Tretton expressed his delight in the PlayStation being one of the pillars.
"I think it’s the best news I could ever hear. When I joined Sony Computer Entertainment, I’d meet people from other Sony divisions. I’d be at an industry event and they’d read my name badge and say ‘Sony Computer Entertainment? What the hell is that? I work for Sony music.’ Sony Computer Entertainment was very much an offshoot and not an intimately familiar division of Sony. … To go from there, where you’re a science experiment, for lack of a better word, to one of the three major pillars of the corporation is great."
Following the disappointing results related to their first fiscal quarter, Sony was forced reduce the Vita's annual sales targets. With the platform underperforming in the market, the firm has assured that the handheld's best months are still to come with titles such as Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified.
That said, however, Sony has been experiencing difficulties in gaining third party support for the Vita.

A majority of the games are just ports.
Also, stick to what you're good at Sony. Consoles.
And same to Nintendo. Stick to handhelds. Or remember what you did with the N64 and try again.
on release you should of had a firs person like Killzone or call of duty this would of made it almost an instant success from the start. Instead for some reason they brought out kids games on lets face it an adults hand held. why bother with dual analog sticks if there was no FPS plus I don’t think many people like resistance its a poor story line.
another one which i don’t think they have thought about how much people are willing to pay for games £40 your taking the piss £30 is more than acceptable i would buy one every month no problems for that price they are being greedy. lure us in first not put us off. also some games which cost £12 on PS3 cost £30 on vita for £12 I would have given it a try £30 not a chance.
memory card again I don’t care about the different format but if Sony are trying to get people to digitally download then why making memory cards so expensive I don’t get it updates have been slow no wonder why I pads and phone are winning .
I go away a lot and think this will be awesome next time i go to Afgan but I am starting to think it wont be around by the time i get out there. I just wish that someone from Sony reads this and takes it in before it fails.
They didn't do it with the grossingly high priced PS3 and they won't do it for the vita. Not until they are in a position to do so anyways.
