XCOM: Enemy Unknown to receive 1v1 multiplayer on launch
Mix and match for multiplayer face-offs
2K Games announced today that XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be receiving a fresh new multiplayer mode enabling players to face off against one another in one-on-one deathmatches.
Players will be able to create a dream team of combative and supportive units, picking from both alien and human races. You will then be able to outfit each unit with a custom loadout comprised from the numerous available armor, weapon, item, and ability types.
This marks the first time in XCOM history that gamers will be given the chance to lead a squad of greys into battle. 2K and Firaxis promise that gamers will be able to experience the multiplayer portion of the title without it making any direct ties to the single player story, "allowing players a standalone opportunity to experience the XCOM universe."
Those planning to pre-order XCOM: Enemy Unknown will receive an Elite Soldier Pack featuring Soldier Deco packs, complete color customization, and a classic XCOM soldier. Anyone seeking a nifty special edition won't be disappointed either as 2K plans to offer one exclusive to the PC complete with XCOM flavored goodies like an insignia patch, a full size poster of the XCOM base, digital soundtrack, and tons more.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown will launch on October 9 in the states with October 12 pegged for everywhere else.
