You would have thought from Metal Gear Solid 2 that people would learn character design in no way affects gameplay. Some video game fans are just so fickle.

Exactly. DMC is a good game but fans just can't stop complaining.

"oohh the combat is slow and clunky and not fast paces like previous entries"
"oh 30 fps and a different engine that clearly wasn't design for such fast pace gameplay!"
"oh nothing new is added in the game except extremely different and unrecognizable visuals and shallow slower gameplay whine!"

Oh wait those are all valid complaints

I still see that the combat doesn't look as fast paced as previous entries and if it's trying to reach the lowest common denominator the combat will probably shallow in comparison to the deep combat system of previous games.

Capcom and ninja theory changed a lot more than dontes hair. I'll just wait for bayonetta 2.

If you have a complaint with the way the gameplay looks, I've got no qualms with you. I was talking about the people who were hating on the game before they had even seen gameplay, and were bitching soley on account of Dantes new look.

I knew Ninja Theory has some potential, yet still some areas need improvements in terms of game/enemy designs, fighting styles and storyline...but somehow, I also believe that the full potential of DMC is achievable in the capable hands of the aforementioned developer.

P.S. Musics still rock as ever...Bar none!

The idea is if they screw up one up thing, they could very well screw up others. This happens constantly.

i'm gonna buy it. i still don't think the new art design is the way to go but its still Devil May Cry. if it blows it blows and i will just wait until Capcom decides to make it themselevs again.

chautemoc I get that to an extent, but it's sort of like not buying the newest album of one of your favorites artist because you didn't like the cover art.

I don't even understand the point of this reboot. DMC4 a clearly flawed and rushed game turned out to be the best selling in the series with 2.5 million sales.

Dante's look and personality changed completely (smoking anyone?) yet due to massive fan outcry they made Dante look more like his DMC3 self and changed his personality to be that more of previous Dantes. Essentially Capcom wanted a completely different Dante but caved and just gave us a completely different look because they refuse to admit how horrible it is.

They went from Gothic style to Punk style just cuz.

It's on a compeltey different engine that isn't optimized for a game of this genre at 30 fps yet it tries to play exactly like previous games yet with more shallow gameplay for newcomers.

It adds no real gameplay changes other than slower, shallow combat, DMC4 on the other hand introduced the devil hand which has been slightly retooled in this game. It adds nothing new beyond visual representation. People say DMC needed a change, but other than very pretty graphics the only thing this game offers is slower, easier combat. It's like making RE7 cel-shaded, add less enemies and less ammo, but its still the same exact action romp except now cel-shaded so thus completely different...somehow.

I would love to understand what Capcoms thought process was when choosing to go this route because so far it seems like they wanted a completely different game yet caved into fan demands and are now trying to make it like previous entries when limitations alone pretty much puts this as the weakest in the series gameplay wise, and then they STILL want this thing to sell as many units as Resident Evil, a zombiemilitary shooter. I fail to understand how anyone, ANYONE, thought this was a good idea.

Yeah, I'm still on the fence with the new guy too, but I just remind myself that this is parallel Dante, and not a makeover of the one we currently have. That being said, this game's starting to look better. I'm also liking how they went with new Dante, they got rid of the gaunt, emo look, and went with a more... Punk, brawler, rebel look. Also... The music! They gave us our Metal back and blew away the JPop, so I'm pretty happy about that. I'm still a little on the fence of the gameplay, though. He's looking more like a heavy hitter (guess that goes with the whole brawler look) instead of the rediculously acrobatic look that his parallel Dante has.
It's not an official entry into the main Devil May Cry franchise, if I'm not mistaken, so I can accept things being a little different. (Or maybe I'm just hopeful that the next DMC game we see will be a return to the old Dante and Gameplay.)

My only major issue with it was the second half was basically retreading the first half. Other than that it is a damn fine game, especially on PC.

If the cover art is stupid, maybe the music is stupid. Most artists make at least one shitty album. In both cases I would sample (e.g. play demo, watch gameplay footage, read reviews, listen to songs on YouTube), before deciding either way; I don't think myself nor anyone else has said they'd flat out not buy DmC because of this issue, just that we're worried and dislike it.

Chautemoc Dmc4 was not bad by any means but it felt lackluster and clearly rushed. Had it or an actual DMC5 been in development and treated the way this current DmC has been treated by Capcom (minus the whole outsourcing to a questionable company) it would have easily matched or surpassed the quality of the first and third game.

That said DMC4 was still a damn good game, nowhere near the level of quality DMC2 was, just needed more development time.

As you mentioned level designs, more repetitive gameplay, story seemed to be going...somewhere but I vaguely remember it now and for me anyways (xbox 360) I was plagued by glitches. Such as Dante getting stuck in the air or the combo meter resetting during a combo, or nero's devil arm not working sometimes.

I don't understand why not just retool this version of dante into Nero, put it in the main timeline and go more in depth about his (supposed) relation to Vergil. All problems (minus gameplay) would be solved right there and then.

Ded Valve I wouldn't mind seeing an entire game dedicated to Vergil.
