As far as multiplayer is concerned, we haven't seen much from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Today, in an official reveal trailer, we get our first look at some of Black Ops 2's muliplayer gameplay in full motion. The trailer sports some exciting new strategic gameplay elements, including shock grenades and various mechanical reinforcements, but there's something else that specifically caught my eye. The end of the trailer features a, likely dramatic recreation, of a competitive eSports match replete with live commentary. What.
Why is this significant? Well judging from the smooth motions of the gameplay, the competitive Black Ops 2 match was clearly being played via console. This means that either Treyarch and Activision are teasing a robust competitive system, replete with commentator and spectator roles, or they're backing and advertising a competitive community that already exists online. Basically, they could sponsor the competitive community in order to help it grow, like what Riot does with League of Legends. This is entirely speculation of course. Without official word, for all we know it could have just been a cool demo someone at Activision threw together for the trailer.
Otherwise, moving away from the specific to the general, Black Ops 2's multiplayer gameplay looks more exciting than ever. They did a great job of showcasing both a number of new features that add strategic elements to gameplay, but also old fan-favorites like sniper rifle quick-scoping (not everyone's a fan) and combat knife action. Frankly, this is the best Black Ops 2 trailer I've seen yet. Gameplay looks fast-paced, exciting and fun, and I suck terribly at modern versions of Call of Duty.
