This is a surprise, a very, very pleasant surprise.

The reason I have yet to play Dayz is because I didn't want to buy Arma II just so I could play a mod.

This changes everything.

I actually bought it during the Steam Sale for cheap, but have yet to install it.

Should really do that tbh, this is a new bar for laziness.

Congratulations to Dean Hall for finally having his dream realised and a thank you to Bohemia for allowing it, it would have been very easy for them to sit back and milk the ArmA II sales the mod has been generating so kudos to them for making such a decision. I can't wait to play the standalone release.

any chance of this getting a console release? I'm not a PC gamer, but I'd love to play this

The problem foquinha is it is such an expansive game, with so many bits, pieces, parts, and functions that the console version would be horribly dumbed down if it did somehow make it. I personally saw videos on this game, and while my current computer probably couldn't run it, I am looking at gaming pc prices and prices to custom build one that can run it, this game has me wanting to switch to the pc all by itself.

The issue with porting DayZ to consoles is in the controls. There are 34 different buttons used to control different facets of a characters movement, now while some like sitting down are useless there are others like leaning, different walk speeds and moving the characters head independent to the body that are important to how DayZ plays. I think Dean Hall may find a pretty big issue in deciding which controls to cut from the game for a console port. I hope he tries at some point but I don't think it will happen any time soon though unfortunately.

If in the future there ever are plans to release on consoles, judging by the very slow pace of how games like these are developed this really will stay on PC or have a shot on next gen consoles. This is IF they choose to make a console version.

Thank god it's getting a standalone release. This basically means it'll be running on a new engine, which in turn means no more zombies running around at the speed of bloody lightning (mostly due to the fact zombies use animal AI, lol)

I'd love to see different zombie speeds that way you have your classic stumbling foes and the newer faster ones and some in between. Keeps that tension up.

Ded Valve In my experience there are two zombie speeds currently in DayZ: the normal zombie running speed, and the "Oh god is this lag or is my game broken, sh*tsh*t they're eating my face where are they oh I'm dead" speed.

Good thing I didn't get it in the Steam sale...I had heard it has a shitty engine has random drops in the FPS rate. This will probably be running on the ARMA 3 engine.
