Bohemia has announced that Day Z will become a standalone game and will be fully funded from the studio.
The full release for Day Z, which is the critically acclaimed zombie-themed ARMA 2 mod, will be headed by creator Dean Hall as project lead. He said the project was "a fairy-tale outcome". And indeed it has: the title recently surpassed one million registered users.
In order to allow current players to continue playing the mod, development and updates of the mod "will continue in parallel with the development of the game".
"The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price I realise people will have many, many questions - but we wanted to let everyone know the announcement now".
There's no release date yet for the full release of Day Z, but its official website will go live in the coming days.
