Dean "Rocket" Hall's popular Arma 2 mod DayZ surpassed one million players as of this morning according to the game's Twitter feed. Quite the feat considering the mod was just released earlier this year, transforming Arma 2's bullet riddled battlefields into an escapist zombie sandbox teeming with blood thirsty bandits, gangling undead, and desperate survivors.
As of writing, players have cumulatively invested 1,226 years of time into surviving DayZ's harsh landscape; and we expect that number to continue to rise in the near future. The mod is free-to-play provided you have Arma 2: Combined Operations installed already, if you want to hop on and give it a shot.
Just don't anticipate living very long on your first try. As of now the ticker on top of DayZ's official site has 49 minutes pegged as a survivor's average life expectancy.
