First Assassin's Creed game is the "purest", says creator

Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets feels the first installment of the series remains the "purest".

Désilets, who has now left Ubisoft, said he feels the original Assassin's Creed stands out as players have to create their "own adventures", whereas its successor saw Ubisoft creating "the adventures for you and you’re following them".

"I like the first Assassin’s Creed because it’s the purest one. There’s a bunch of stories that you can have, but it’s all in your head. You have to create your own adventures.

"Whereas in Assassin’s Creed II, we created the adventures for you and you’re following them. For me, the first one is an amazing toy. The second one is the real game with rules and missions and it’s really precise. But personally I like the poetry of the first one. It’s pure."

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has sold over 31 million copies since the original's launch in 2007. The next installment, Assassin's Creed 3, is currently scheduled for a release on October 30 in North America and a day later throughout European territories.
