ArenaNet has dedicated this day to educating us on the Guild Wars Hall of Monuments feature, including what it is and how it ties into Guild Wars 2. Most of us who played the first game know about it already, but hey, not everyone was there since the beginning.
In a nutshell, the Hall of Monuments is like a massive virtual trophy room that records and shows off all your accomplishments throughout the Guild Wars games. It was introduced in the Eye of the North expansion. In addition to displaying your awards -- like completed armor sets, minipets, upgraded Heroes, and so forth -- the Hall also records your progress with points, which unlock new rewards for use in Guild Wars 2. There's actually an online calculator telling you exactly how many points you have and what goodies you've unlocked for the upcoming MMO.
All this is covered in the new Guild Wars 2 preview video, starring the incredibly likable John Stumme, game designer at ArenaNet. Stumme also shows us, for the first time, some of the HOM rewards, like the Heritage armor skin (taken from Prophecies) and Ice Breaker hammer. Check it out.

The final beta event ended just this past weekend, and ArenaNet sent everyone out in style with a large-scale Hunger Games inspired PVP match. Guild Wars 2 is expected to launch on August 28. If you haven't already reserved your Guild Wars names for the second game, you've got until July 31 to do so.
