Prototype 2 delivered a solid experience upon its initial release April 24, an experience we heartily recommend. Unfortunately, the game's launch didn't go as smoothly as anticipated. The title's PC port, originally scheduled for release one month after the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions' release, was delayed another two months to July 24. PC gamers were confused and disappointed, but we soon found out the delay had little to do with the platform. On June 28, Prototype 2 developer Radical Entertainment was hit with across the board layoffs, bringing it to the brink of closure. Today the PC version of Prototype 2 is released, as much a memorial to a once great studio as great release in the midst of the summer game dought.
Yet here we are, and if anything we should celebrate Radical Entertainment and its final shipped product. Prototype 2 is launching today at a retail price of $49.99 and will include plenty of additional goodies, since PC gamers had to wait so long. Purchasers will receive the RADNET edition of Prototype 2, which includes over 50 additional challenges, events and rewards including the Alex Mercer skin. Check out the full required specs below.
While unfortunate that PC gamers had to wait three months to play Prototype 2, and even moreso that Radical Entertainment's employees have moved on to hopefully better opportunities, lets not forget they've made a great game here. There are many great reasons to pick it up, or if anything worth mentioning to a friend. Prototype 2 releases today on PC both digitally and through retail, and is also currently available on Xbox 360 and PS3.
