Ghost Recon: Future Soldier did Ubisoft proud during Q1 FY2012-13
Quarterly revenue jumped 27 percent on account of stronger-than-expected sales
Higher-than-expected sales for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier have allowed publisher Ubisoft to pocket a handsome €131 million ($161 million USD) in revenue for its first fiscal quarter of 2012-13 which ended June 30th, 2012. According to Ubisoft, that's a 27.2 percent year-on-year increase from the €103 million ($126 million USD) recorded for the same period of 2011-12.
Ubisoft also confirmed that Future Soldier was their best-selling console game in the US for the last two months in terms of both the actual numbers sold as well as revenue earned at retail. On top of Future Soldier's success, Ubisoft also saw strong performance in their free-to-play online titles and Trials Evolution (for the Xbox 360), contributing to a 112 percent increase in sales for the publisher's online portfolio.
While Ubisoft is bracing for a year-on-year decrease in revenue for its coming fiscal quarter, the publisher is currently sticking with its previously-announced full-year revenue and operating income targets.
Now onto some more useful facts! Xbox 360 software accounted for 42 percent of Ubisoft's sales during its first fiscal quarter, followed by the PS3 which contributed another 26 percent. PC software sales actually placed third, accounting for 12 percent of the total revenue while the Wii made for another 7 percent. The 3DS and Vita did equally well for Ubisoft, both contributing 2 percent each to the quarterly sales total.
