Star Wars: The Old Republic executive producer Rich Vogel has left BioWare Austin, reports have confirmed, and rumors concerning further layoffs have sparked once again.
Vogel has been an integral part of TOR's development, and his resume extends well beyond 20 years of industry experience, encompassing major MMOs from various studios like Meridian 59, Ultima Online, and Star Wars Galaxies. Prior to his departure, he had been with BioWare Austin for seven years, acting as vice president and executive producer.
EA hasn't commented on whether more layoffs would follow, but reports this morning are claiming that Austin is letting more of its staff go. Back in May, BioWare had announced restructuring plans, though it's unclear at this point whether the activity at their Austion studio is a part of that plan or a separate round of layoffs. Publisher EA previously stated that layoffs were necessary for The Old Republic's continual growth.
Neither BioWare nor EA have released a statement regarding these reports, and Austin has yet to name a replacement for Vogel.
