Final Fantasy 14 2.0 concept art captures the mysterious male Miqo'te, or cat-boy

When Final Fantasy XIV developer Square Enix said they're going back to the drawing board to fix as many problems with their MMO as possible, they weren't kidding. Most fans might have been content with an overhaul of the UI and progression systems, but Square wants more. Newly released concept art gives us some of our first looks at the male Miqo'te, a previously gender-locked race of cat-people. Adding new playable characters is just one of the steps Square is taking for their 2.0 update.

Square wants the Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 relaunch to feel like the world has grown significantly in content. On that list of fan requests for 2.0 is unlocking both sexes for every race option in the game, such as male Highlander humans, male Miqo'te cat-people, and female Roegadyn, the thick-skinned, bulky race. These additions have each been confirmed, but seen only in leaked screenshots or other in-game material. 

As a launch reviewer for Final Fantasy XIV, I was amazed at the size, scope and detail of the game. It was otherwise near-impossible to play, however, due to its lack of supplementary social systems and its extremely poor control interface. 2.0 promises to fix as much as possible, and I'll be first in line to try it out when it releases, tentatively later this year.
