Dinobots and Insecticons will be playable in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron multiplayer, both in competitive and co-op Escalation. The catch? They're being added some time after launch as DLC.
Activision and High Moon were in San Diego this year (like every year), eager to show off the upcoming sequel to War for Cybertron. We were able to get hands-on time with the single-player and multiplayer -- Deathmatch and Conquest -- so you'll definitely be hearing more about that later. The multiplayer reveal kicked off with an enthusiastic address from game director Matt "Tieg" Tieger.
During his introduction, Tieger made a couple of major announcements regarding Fall of Cybertron's multiplayer. Firstly, the upcoming Transformers game will support host migration, a feature that War for Cybertron lacked. Now, losing the host won't end an entire match.
Secondly, Dinobots and Insecticons will be available in multiplayer and Escalation, but only as additional content. No other details for the DLC were given, meaning we still don't know when it's coming or how much it'll cost. Free is always best, of course, and we'd hate to see a price tag attached to the Dinos and bugs.
We didn't get to try either out in the multiplayer, but they were available for preview (albeit locked) in the character customization. From what we glimpsed, we're thinking these special Autobot and Decepticons will just be custom skins, with a few unique animations but no real advantages gameplay wise. Balance is a major hurdle, after all. But the DLC may very well be incomplete at this stage, so we'll just have to wait until High Moon is ready to say more.
