Tekken producer would consider quitting rather than charging players for DLC characters
Harada reaffirms stance regarding paid Tekken DLC despite Namco pressure
Despite continuous pressure from Namco, Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada has reaffirmed his stance on not offering paid DLC characters for Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
Harada had previously voiced his opinion regarding paid DLC being attributed to additional characters; he believes they're simply too crucial to not already be included on the disk. His belief in that notion is so strong that he'll consider quitting if Namco made him choose.
"I've been saying that, at least for Tekken, regarding techniques, characters and stages, these three things won't be charged for, even if they are DLC. Actually this is something my bosses have been asking me for quite a while now - what are our plans for DLC? How much money can we make? They are a company, obviously, in it to make money. So it's something I'm continually asked even now.
"But I haven't changed my stance. If you're making a fighting game, all of the elements necessary to enjoy it should be on the disk, or should at least be available for free. If I was given the choice to include paid DLC or quit Namco, I would maybe quit... Or maybe I would just say 'get someone else to deal with this'."
The Tekken producer added that he supports DLC characters, but only if they're offered for free. As for potential paid downloadable content, he'll only support non-essential items for the sequel including past ending movies or previous soundtracks.
"These are ideas that aren't essential to enjoy the game, and might be available for purchase."
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 launches on September 11 in North America and three days later throughout Europe.

back when gaming was good the company said how do we make this game so good everyone will buy it and give us money this was not bad we got all the content no need to go out of our way to buy something extra other then maybe a new controller
now days when DLC became huge a problem had occurred now its finish the game i dont care how short it is 60$s but who cares ! alright well its done good job now start on the DLC 20$ wait what ! you heard me money !
I've stopped buying DLC altogether because it's ridiculous paying full price then still not having access to the full game.
Maybe gamers would be more loyal to companies if developers didn't milk gamers for all they're worth.
