Angry Birds Trilogy coming to consoles and 3DS
Due to arrive toward the end of 2012
Rovio Mobile is bringing their highly successful Angry Birds series to consoles in the Angry Birds Trilogy. This was first teased at E3 by Activision, of all companies, and the first details are just now coming to light.
The trilogy will bundle together Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio, and Angry Birds Seasons for Xbox 360, PS3, and 3DS -- in physical form. That's right, the games are actually going to be on a disc (or cartridge). Petri Järvilehto, Rovio's Executive VP of Games, says the Trilogy is being "built from the ground up" for HDTVs."
He describes it as a sort of "ultimate" edition for Angry Birds, complete with new cutscenes and other upgrades:
"You can think of the game as the ultimate collector’s edition. There are new cinematics, extras and other entertaining content. In addition all of the existing material has been uprezzed and re-treated for the high-resolution and big screen."
In terms of gameplay, Angry Birds Trilogy will be compatible with Kinect, PlayStation Move, and Street Pass on 3DS.
As for all those free level packs iOS and Android users get? That's still up in the air, and Järvilehto wouldn't comment. He did say that every level would have its own leaderboards. Of course, Angry Birds is also receiving a facelift for its console debut:
"The backgrounds have been animated, we've added lighting modes, reactive backgrounds, the list goes on and on. We believe that there are a lot of people on the consoles who appreciate a great casual game play experience. This is a game that resonates across a wide audience on many platforms."
Expect to see Angry Birds Trilogy later this year, during the holiday season.
