"Wake your *****-ass up!" yells the Old Spice guy, and that's how we're introduced to The Expendables 2: The Video Game's first official gameplay trailer. Oh, the trailer does go on from there, however, as Dolph Lundgren joins the fun, we break the fourth wall, and are finally shown some gameplay for this cooperative run-and gun. Does it really need to, though? Having the Old Spice guy yell that at you and then sock you in the mug basically captures the heart and soul of the experience.
For those unfamiliar, The Expendables is an ensemble film starring the manliest of action stars as a mercenary troop. It's a throw-back to those great blockbusters of the 80s and 90s with over-the-top explosions and fight scenes. It's not a good film, per se, but it's terribly nostalgic and fun. The Expendables 2: The Video Game looks to share a similar style and attitude.
Expect Contra level ridiculousness as a handful of dudes take on hordes of enemies, including tanks, with their machine guns, grenades and maybe even bare hands. There's no aliens, but there might as well be. Play as Stallone, Lundgren, Jet Li or Terry Crews, and expect to kick some ass.
The Expendables 2: The Video Game will be initially released on PSN for $14.99, though PlayStation Plus members will receive a discount price of $11.99, starting July 31. The game will then be released on XBLA and PC on August 17 for 1200MSP and $14.99 respectively.
