Irish actor Michael Fassbender will be starring in Ubisoft Motion Pictures' upcoming Assassin's Creed movie, and his studio DMC Film is co-producing the flick.
He certainly isn't a stranger to those of us with nerdier pursuits. Most recently, he appeared in Prometheus as the android David (above); previously, he voiced Logan in Fable III, played young Magneto in X-Men: First Class, and was Stelios in 300. Of course, you'll find much more than that on his IMDb page.
Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet said that Fassbender was their "first choice" to play the Assassin, though which one remains a mystery to us all. The premise of the movie remains vague at best, so your guess is as good as ours. Either way, he's a good actor and an attractive fellow, so color me pleased.
Ubisoft is playing their cards pretty carefully and seems to be keeping their game-based projects completely in-house now with Paris-based UMP. Distribution rights may go to other companies like Sony, but the publisher is definitely trying to avoid another Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which was done by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer.
