F2P Blacklight: Retribution now on Steam

Landing on Steam and with a Starter deal seemed to work wonders for Tribes: Ascend's success recently (it's currently #5 on the top sellers list), and it appears publisher Perfect World noticed and have employed the same strategy. That is to say, the also free to play shooter Blacklight: Retribution is now on Steam, and with a 50% discount on its own Starter Pack.

The Starter Pack isn't as sweet a deal as the one for Tribes, but isn't too bad regardless: for $10 you get two guns, two gun mods, two pieces of armor, two pieces of equipment gear, 3000 game points, and a week-long XP boost.

Those who've still got horrible memories from the original Blacklight can safely forget all that. As noted previously, the new game is actually well worth playing now.

Developer Zombie Studios notes the servers are experiencing "extremely high demand", meaning the experiment has proved a success, but you may experience issues until 10PM PDT, when maintenance will occur.
