In an unexpected development, Activision Blizzard has confirmed that it is currently looking to sell or shut down Radical Entertainment, the creators of Prototype. According to Acti, Prototype hasn't performed up to par, failing to "find a broad commercial audience."
No word was given on how long they'll be keeping the studio's 90-some employees on their payroll. As of now, details are still up in the air.
A statement from Activision reads:
"We met with the team and are currently exploring various options for the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business. Our preference would be to keep the team together. However, it is too early to say anything further at this time."
In 2009, Prototype reportedly sold over 2 million copies, which is actually really good. Activision hasn't revealed sales figures for this year's Prototype 2, however.
