ArenaNet's released a new trailer for Guild Wars 2, subsequently announcing the sequel's release date.
The massively multiplayer online role-playing game will launch on August 28, 2012. Mike O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet, said on the announcement:
"We’re offering gamers an experience that delivers on the promise of online gaming with a truly social experience in an immense, shared world. After five years of creation, development, and polish, announcing the launch date of Guild Wars 2 is a huge milestone for us, but the thing we’re most looking forward to is seeing gamers from all over the globe explore this world and begin creating their own stories.
"Now that we’re just two months away from launch, we’ll spend our remaining time optimizing, polishing, and balancing the game, to ensure that we provide you with the best launch-day experience we possibly can.
"These are exciting times; we’re on the cusp of a new era in online roleplaying games, and we’re glad you’re on this journey with us."
Guild Wars 2 utilizes a modified version of the proprietary game engine created by ArenaNet, with alterations to the engine applying to the Havok physics system, as well as the deliverance of real-time 3D environments, in addition to enhanced graphics and animations.
The sequel itself has already sold "Hundreds of thousands" units with fans paying in full (pre-purchased) for the title. Meanwhile, a final beta weekend for Guild Wars 2, which won't require a subscription to play upon launch, commences on July 20 till 22.
