Square Enix gives ultimatum for Final Fantasy VII remake

I really don't get why Square are so gun shy over this, they would have to do very little to improve the game, even just redoing it completely in HD would be a great start and add SO much as FF7 looks friggin abysmal in terms of character models.

Damn straight they failed to meet expectations.... Because they are rubbish! FFVII is not a whole new game, I fail to see how it would ruin anything.

If there were a remake (HD or ground up) I think it would need speech, not just HD textures, that is a lot of man hours as well as a lot of money to throw at it. I do however believe they would make it back and then some, so many people want a FF7 remake, myself included.

Thank you Square, I love you guys. Kick VII out of the way, ignore the rabid fanbase, and keep creating new stories.

currently playing FF7 again on psp from the psn store and i have to say all they really need to do is update the graphics and that's all. they don't need to add full voice speech into it or even add anything into the game. the battle system is still very good and one of the reason i stopped playing the final fantasy series is cause they strayed away from the ATB system of old. But also if they remake it they will probably want to toss some more stuff into the game or even change the battle system which would be a no sale for me.

If anything remake FF6 into full HD first. mostly because a lot of people haven't played that and its got one hell of a story. if that goes well then start working on a 7 remake. if it bombs at the very least the people who bought it got one hell of a story to play. and in the end isn't that what Final Fantasy always been about. Great story telling and characters.

Ummm tell me i read this right... "Square Enix has said a Final Fantasy VII remake will only come into fruition if the original is topped." That sounds like buy our new Final Fantasy's and we might make a new version of FF VII. It sounds like a giant scheme to make more money, not that i don't want a remake of FF VII but all they have to do is do an HD Remake not a full remake. And if I remember right there was a mod for my pc copy that redid all the textures and stuff making it look really good, why can't square do the same?

If you can call them stories, really only Type-0 held true to the storytelling as of late.

If Square is worried about quality they need to stop trying to innovate. XII, XIII, and XIII-2 were all rubbish because they tried to be too different. They just need to focus on making a great game experience.

I'm wondering how it would supposedly "Ruin the FF franchise" they've released multiple games that were part of the FFVII world,and it didn't ruin anything.

That being said,I can't say I really want a VII remake,though I would like to see remakes of VIII and IX.

why change something that aint broke but in reality they tried different things that just does't work with FF13/13-2 bring back ff7 i sure will buy it lol

The ceo admiting that the latest titles were trash is exactly what I wanted. It sounds like they have a goal of making the next great ff now. That's good news. A remake of ff7 would only be good if they just upgraded to hd models. Voice acting would completly ruin it. RUIN IT. The voices they used in AV were horrible. I'd rather them leave ff7 the hell alone its good as it is. Square enix is trash anyway.. Real ff fans know mistwalker is the new deal!!!

I actually agree with Square Enix's decision on this. That fact is that I have very fond memories of playing this game - my sister and I were both shocked when we saw Aeris's death by Sephiroth's hands. What most people fail to realize, and what Square Enix does realize, is that moments like this may in fact be spoiled or not live up to the users expectations. If that happens then you, the users who "DESPERATELY (I laugh at the thought of this by the way)" want them to remake this game will in fact villainize Square for ruining your favorite video game, if not villainize them for ruining you favorite Franchise. Square knows this, they know that the risks of investing in a complete remake/overhaul/whatever in FF7 may be suicide for them.

Long Story Short - Square won't remake this because they know that if they screw up anything, even a minor detail, you, the player, will villainize them for ruining your favorite game/franchise. And, quite honestly, I completely respect there decision for that.

Side note: when you get to college this is why you take business classes, so you understand why companies make the decisions they do.
