I spent so much time playing ME3, a youtube video will be enough for me, i'm a little burnt out on it to be honest. did everything there is to do, except for that one "from ashes" dlc

Very well said, pretty much sums my thoughts up as well. I too won't be playing through it either.

Tbh I just started ME1 again so I'm fine with playing its pre-canon-*bleep*ery goodness.

On the contrary, I think the Extended Cut DLC is intended to repair the ending/service the fans, for the exact reasons you mentioned. You can't sell post-launch content to people who hate your game. Stirring up controversy makes absolutely no sense if it alienates all your fans to the point where the franchise is effectively dead in their eyes, and will not buy future content. Thus, the whole point of this DLC is to appease the fans, so that BioWare/EA can then continue to line their pockets with cash by selling future content to their regained customers.

I have no doubts that the ending will remain ambiguous. I don't think anyone doubts that. However, that doesn't mean it can't be good. It was obvious their intention was to have an ambiguous ending to stir conversation (not controversy), I just don't think they intended for it to go as badly as it did. They definitely did it to spark discussion so the ME name wouldn't be forgotten, but I highly doubt their intention was to shoot ME in the head, and have it forever be known in a negative light and treated with such hate, which is what the ending in its current state ended up doing. Doing that intentionally just makes no sense, because again, you can't sell things if your customers hate you and thus refuse to support you by buying your products.

I know for a fact that I wouldn't be playing this if it wasn't free. Or any of the DLC for that matter. In my eyes, Mass Effect is pretty much dead. The ending destroyed the series on a whole for me and I have absolutely no desire to spend any more money on it. Couple that with the rest of the controversy, and I'm not even going to buy another EA/BioWare game, let alone Mass Effect game. I just don't care anymore. That's how a lot of people feel at the moment, and BioWare is well aware of that. Hence, they are releasing this DLC, for free, in an attempt to regain their potential customers for future content. Maybe it'll work; I'll find out when I play it. If it does, everyone wins, really.

I'll be playing it and sharing my thoughts tomorrow. This could either be really great... or really awful.

"It's a Lost/Damon Lindelof strategy of distracting the fanbase with excellent character writing, so plot-holes and flawed narrative are ignored or outright dismissed."

So they took notes from Final Fantasy 7?

It's new content(sort of) FOR FREE. I will be downloading it and then after I finish dawnguard in a week or so I will be playing it. Honestly, no even if it just pisses me back off I will move on and go to another game, it's just a game.

I'm just playing Mass Effect 3 for the first time. Today I have gotten to the final mission so tomorrow when the DLC is deployed, I will see the ending with fresh eyes.

I don't believe for a second that you're not gonna play it. If it's for free, you'll play it.

I've just reached Cerberus HQ and can't decide if I want to finish the game as it is to see if it pisses me off as it obviously did everyone else, or if I should download the DLC to see it objectively. Opinions?

@ Undecided Wait it out. It's only a few more hours. It'll be worth playing the more robust ending. The older ending might be tempting, but it should be widely known that you're almost certain to be disappointed with it. At least with the new ending there's a chance for a better overall experience, and if not... well at least you'll be able to join in the fresh discussion online.
