Looks like the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut add-on is just about done, as the DLC has been dated for release next week, June 26.
The Tuesday release applies to PC and Xbox 360 versions worldwide, as well as PS3 owners in North America. For the European PS3 crowd, the DLC will be available July 4, which is actually kind of ironic.
To be clear, the Extended Cut DLC won't be a whole new ending to the game. Instead, it will build on the existing endings with additional footage and scenes, perhaps better explaining just what the heck was going on in those final moments.
The Extended Cut expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings.
So you're still stuck with the same endings, like it or not. To download this new (and free) content, players need only load their save file prior to the (SPOILER!) assault on the Cerberus Base, then play through the end from there. BioWare notes that the new scenes "will differ depending on choices made" throughout the whole series, suggesting players try multiple playthroughs to check out all the possibilities. We're assuming this means the final cutscenes will have more variety beyond the color of that shockwave.
