Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC drops next Tuesday, later for some PS3 owners
Here's hoping for some proper closure
Looks like the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut add-on is just about done, as the DLC has been dated for release next week, June 26.
The Tuesday release applies to PC and Xbox 360 versions worldwide, as well as PS3 owners in North America. For the European PS3 crowd, the DLC will be available July 4, which is actually kind of ironic.
To be clear, the Extended Cut DLC won't be a whole new ending to the game. Instead, it will build on the existing endings with additional footage and scenes, perhaps better explaining just what the heck was going on in those final moments.
The Extended Cut expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings.
So you're still stuck with the same endings, like it or not. To download this new (and free) content, players need only load their save file prior to the (SPOILER!) assault on the Cerberus Base, then play through the end from there. BioWare notes that the new scenes "will differ depending on choices made" throughout the whole series, suggesting players try multiple playthroughs to check out all the possibilities. We're assuming this means the final cutscenes will have more variety beyond the color of that shockwave.

These are not only companies that have refused to listen to their consumer base on the grounds that its "not our universe or vision" and who are we to argue with their ending. After all, we're just dumb ass gamers, our devotion to the purchase of their game only continued the funding for their game to have squeals. On top of that, all three companies ridiculed and poked fun at consumer out rage over the promises made regarding the game's ending, as well as, the poor execution and writing of the one they provided.
If you go to the movie theater, pay 1/6th the cost of Mass Effect 3 for a ticket, watch the movie and despite some reasonable chuckles found the ending incredibly uninteresting and unfulfilling; would you consider that money well spent? What if you asked for your money back, and the owner of the theater felt it acceptable to mock you in their efforts to inform you that it was your choice to watch the film. Or, should you accept that the awesome trailer, posters, and promotional offered by the film failed to live up to it's claims and yet is still rejected as 'false advertisement'?!?
Hell no, you'd demand justice. So let your voice be heard as the consumer. Boycott these companies and make them feel it where their 'heart and soul' are...the investors.
I was one of the few who didn't hate what was already presented in the endings. My biggest issue was the total lack of clarity. It didn't quite fall into minimalistic mind-*bleep* territory, and it definitely wasn't particularly fleshed out. From the sound of things, I'll probably be pretty satisfied with the added content. Guess we'll find out Tuesday.
