During the Nintendo Direct event tonight Nintendo announced the next version of their 3DS system, the 3DS LL. The LL will be to the 3DS as the XL was to the DSi, as in it has bigger screens but is otherwise unchanged. The news come from the Japanese language version of Nintendo Direct, and as we're without a translator if any other details were revealed we'll have to wait for the English version of the broadcast later this night.
Check out a screen capture of the new handheld that I caught above, and let us know what you think! Personally, I wish it had a seccond analog stick. The lack of a second stick seems to be a big deterrent to 3rd party development, but I guess Nintendo doesn't consider it to be a major problem. Oh well!
The English version of the Nintendo Direct event starts at 9PM PST, and is said to have news on Smash Bros. and Monster Hunter. Make sure to watch if you're a Nintendo fan.
Update: The handheld is named the 3DS XL in the US; LL is the Japanese name (Remember the DSi LL?). Expect a $199.99 price tag when it hits August 19.
