pfft, bloody hypocrites. lets just say i wont be too sad to see EA out of business if and when steam takes over a larger portion of the gaming market.

speaking of which, i heard a while back that EA might be bought out by another company...any info on that?

I would love Valve to buy them.. In 2011 EA were valued at $6.2 billion which may not be out of the realms of possibility for Valve.

Ah that's a shame.. Hopefully whoever it is actually reshapes upper management at EA.

No buy out or buying of EA. The rumour came about due to Nexon being interested in EA but it seems that was simply a partnership between the two companies for publishing in Korea.

As to wanting Valve to buy EA...LMAO. You want a bigger hypocrite to take over another? Nice...I think Valve really need to put more focus on their own games before taking over someone else's, plus EA are publicly traded, I doubt a privately owned company will want the excess of pressure to meet shareholder's demands when they cannot conform to their own consumer's demands.

When Valve release Half Life 2: Episode 3 or Half Life 3 then I will back them in their future plans...until then the only way I will support Valve is via Steam and playing previous Valve made titles like Left 4 Dead

It seems EA can't win no matter what they do. If they don't do big sales they get slagged, if they do they get slagged. I think its good that there's competition on this front and the sales are really welcome. Steam already innovates plenty on its own, but it never hurts to have more services to keep them on their toes.

I think we can all be glad that 75% off sales can exist on Origin, in spite of previous reports. That just means that Origin exclusive titles have a chance of deep discounts come Xmas. I'm sure we can all agree that's a win for gamers since EA has committed itself to this route.

Redemption,
They're not really getting slagged for having a big sale but for the hypocrisy. Not even 2 weeks ago the boss went on a rant about how it's bad for the industry and you'll never see origin follow suit.

I support the move. The announcement from DeMartini just adds comedy value.
However, I suspect said announcement was a PR stunt to garner extra attention for the sale in question. I know I wouldn't have known about it were it not for this article.

EA's tactics are underhanded and I would love to see them take a big enough loss from one of these ill-advised publicity campaigns, etc. to reduce the chance of them committing another in the future, ultimately making them a better company and a positive force in the games industry... but failing that, Valve finally having some mainstream competition can only be good for the consumer.

eh, valve has been a pretty good leader in setting a good example for other companies out there. honestly, considering gabe, i dont think that the customer would suffer greatly if valve was a monopoly. however, if EA was a monopoly, that would be another issue altogether, and i doubt these kinds of sales would ever even get considered.

I agree with you, but it doesn't change the fact that competition will always be beneficial in some way. It certainly won't damage Valve's customers.

And you said it yourself: if EA didn't have Valve to compete with, they'd never sell games at these prices

Well, EA. You've stolen $3.00 from me on Mass Effect without any rewards, given me horrible and lazy customer service, provide games based all around money and made me lose my purchases of the Sims 2 to an update of Origin. I'm sorry EA, but you guys are pretty shitty.

my point was that not every company will be the exact same greedy, money grubbing machine, and i was trying to make that distinction between valve and EA. of course, competition is always beneficial to consumers.
