I say this is a good call, just in general. Already I can foresee the many funny videos being put on youtube because of two people playing and scaring the crap out of each other.

Not to mention the majority of players these days are quite happy to play co-op, I know I certainly like co-op these days and will generally leave a singleplayer game for another day in order to play a chapter or portion of a co-op game with friends.

The clincher here however is that they have left it optional, they are allowing players to choose whether they want to play alone or with a friend, granted however the optional part does only work with some games...for example Army of Two is all about co-op, whereas Splinter Cell Conviction allows you to play solo or with a friend and believe me, a friend and I have spent many hours and still do just playing co-op in Conviction

I'll be playing in solo. I am a firm believer that horror games no matter how action oriented they may be are better by yourself. I get the appeal of being scared by your friend who you didn't expect to be standing right behind you when you turn around, but overall I find being on my own better in games like this.

The idea of co-op horror fascinates me. I remember playing Kuon on PS2 with a roommate, and we screamed our heads off. Not exactly true co-op, but we made due by passing the controller between us each time the protagonist switched.

Indeed, back in the days of Playstation and not every working household being able to afford one/having to wait until Christmas to get one. Me and friends would play games like Silent Hill and Dino Crisis alternatively

Of course some games should be done solo, games like Amnesia for example and there's no issue with playing horror games alone but at the moment there's an open market for horror co-op and only a couple of franchises are taking advantage, granted some doing it better than others (Dead Rising 2 beats Resident Evil 5 in the co-op area for example)

ShadowJ, I actually found Amnesia scarier with a friend in the room as she was screaming and jumping at everything. I wasn't fussed about the enemies after a while because she was scarier anything lol.
