Most of you might remember 5TH Cell for their work on Scribblenauts, so the studio's next game Hybrid -- an XBLA exclusive shooter -- comes as a bit of a surprise. Well, they were at E3 this year, showing off the upcoming "Summer of Arcade" entry, and we had a chance to look at the game.
5TH Cell producer Caleb Arseneaux was on hand to show us the ropes and talk a bit about the shooter. Interestingly, this multiplayer-only title isn't following the common design dogma of "bigger is better." Instead, Hybrid supports intimate 3v3 battles and keeps players under constant cover. Simplistic by description, but the result is intense, frenetic action with practically no down time.
Players can choose between two factions duking it out for global dominance, in a conflict that's described as a "race" rather than "tug of war." The persistent overworld is constantly being measured by two meters that keep track of each faction's score. The more territory your side holds, the bigger your score, and once one since reaches 100, they win. What do you get for winning? A cool helmet apparently, while losers are awarded a paper bag to wear in their head slot. We're not kidding -- it really is a paper bag, with handles and everything.

No word on exactly when Hybrid will be out, but keep an eye on XBLA over the next couple months.
