Thus the premise of XCOM: Enemy Unkown is set, but it's not until you watch this new E3 trailer that you'll see exactly what Firaxis has in store for gamers. Yes, the game retains its turn-based action RPG mechanics, but this new trailer avoids showing any gameplay. Instead you'll see some of the game's new cinematic aspects.
An assortment of aliens doing what they do best, destroying civilization, takes the forefront. XCOM is subsequently activated and we get a look at some of the secret technology Earth has been storing up for just this occasion. There's even a good look at what your base may potentially look like after you've expanded quite a bit. It's a lot of rooms to add, a lot of tactical gameplay for you to explore.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown has taken away from the FPS XCOM we've seen in recent years. The new, tactical top-down game is being made for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, with an expected release date of October 9, 2012.
