EA @ E3 Live Blog: Battlefield Premium, SimCity, Dead Space 3
Join us for the EA press conference, starting at 1:00 PM PT
The second keynote of the day is about to begin! EA's E3 Press Conference start's at 1PM, you can watch it live from EA.com or follow this story for live text updates. We've got two staff members in the audience, Lydia Sung and Gabriel Vega -- you can follow their Twitter accounts for up to date snark and pictures at @RabidChinaGirl and @vegitax2 respectively. Don't be surprised if all Gabe does is play Terraria, though. Leave your thoughts in the comments, now let's get this party started.
2:05 - As everyone exits we're seeing a flash of titles from the games that were shown. Thanks for joining us for the conferences! Look forward to Ubisoft's keynote next at 3:00. I'm off to catch a flight.
2:04 - End of show! 10 great games from 10 great developers. He thanks everyone for coming to the conference. Final trailer?
1:59 - Crytek takes the stage. Talking about how much technology it takes to create Crysis. Seven different environments, or biomes for you Minecraft geeks -- all part of the urban rainforest. Time for some gameplay.
All sorts of cloaking and sneaking around going on. Lots of sparks being thrown off from bullet to metal deflections. Prophet is going into a complex of some sort. "Locate the overrides and shut this thing down." "No time, lets rough it up a little." Hulk smash, he trashes it with his hands. The complex is falling apart as he's running back up the stairs.
After reaching the roof, Prophet gets knocked over and he finds a bow. He shoots a helicopter and it is wrecked. Now he's swimming , looks very, very nice. He plants a charge on the dam (it's a dam!) and leaps off... blowing the charge as he swings away. Uh oh, here comes the water... Prophet gets caught in the wave -- cut to title screen. End.
1:52 - New racing game showing off police cars and hot rods. This must be Most Wanted. No dubstep, no, we have Firestarter by The Prodigy! Classic. Criterion Games coming on-stage. "Become the Most Wanted" open world driving game where players compete to become the biggest criminal among their friends. All sorts of racing metrics being evaluated and compared against your friends.
Gameplay trailer now, we're seeing some of the world of Most Wanted... and wow it looks really good. Epic crashes happening left and right. The road looks really amazing, with water all over it. Oh damn, police road block, but the player charger through taking out a cop car with him. Lots of street debris that looks great, though some big stuff just bounces off with no effect. News paper stands look great though.
The race finishes, and we're seeing stags, but the game starts right up again. "We're continuing pursuit." He has to escape now, through alleys, under bridges, across construction sites... cop cars are falling left and right. He's just charging through them. He runs into a wall, the cops don't arrest him (must be God mode). He's going off a huge ramp... yup, cut to title screen.
Game looks great. Hands on with single player and multiplayer at E3. October 30, God save the Queen.
1:49 - New trailer for... UFC? Yes, some live-action UFC fights going on. UFC coming to EA sports. Dana White takes the stage. Announcing a multi-year and multi-product contract between EA and USC. "It's about time." MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world. 175 countries, 22 different language... Dana is really excited about this. Heck, this is a huge deal for sports gamers.
1:41 - EA Sports takes the stage again. "We want to connect every game you play across every platform." Madden NFL Social is their first example. Start the game on Facebook, finish it on your phone. NBA Live, the game will change all season long, or roster selections in NCAA football.
Taking a look at the "biggest sports game in the world" now... it's soccer! FIFA 2012 -- big games draw people into recreating games and moments. "We're not just a game, we're a global platform. FIFA is football's social network." 11 million people in Football club, that connects them to every soccer game EA puts out.
"Today we have four big announcements." All returning FIFA 12 players carry experience to 13. Bonus experience if you carry your account over. FIFA 13 on iPad and iPhone will be connected to Football Club. Finally, all new iPhone app to keep you connected to FIFA.
"If Football Club is the heart, then gameplay is our soul." Personified by Messi, who will be on the cover of FIFA 13. 2nd gen of Player Impact Engine will be better than ever. Entirely new arsenal of dribbling moves. Vancouver team hard at work.
First trailer is going live now. Showcasing tackles, dribbling moves, battles for possession, first touch dribbling in particular, tactical free kicks, attacking intelligence -- and more. End.
1:32 - Metal of Honor - Warfighter takes the stage. Every event in the game is a point in the real world, of a real world-event. Showing some gameplay now, soldiers making their way through the shallows towards a broken city. Player gets shot in the chest, gets right back up... hell of armor he has there. He's under a broken bridge, bullets are destroying the environment.
Standard FPS gameplay so far, grenades, cinematic opening of doors... wait this is new. You get to choose how the door gets opened -- the guy takes a shotgun to it. Slow motion entry lets the player mow down 6 guys before they can react to a door opening. He targets a bulding across the way and it gets DEMOLISHED by ... is it an airstrike? Hard to tell.
There's a calm, then the player goes into a tunnel beneath the building. Cut. Now he's driving a motorized turret. The thing is rambo, mowing down enemies. Now the turret is providing support to some troops under fire, doing all the dirty work so the troops don't take too heavy of fire. "Looks like we bought 'em some time. Lets go finish this." End of cinematic.
Introducing Global Warfighters, the game's multiplayer mode. It'll be available on the show floor at E3. Trailer for the multiplayer is running, showing off the different classes? you can play as. "Who will you fight for?" You can choose different factions, a dozen of them, likely each with a goal of some sort of global conquest. Kind of like MAG's concept, I think... only with a bunch more factions. End.
1:28 - BioWare on-stage, talking about Star Wars: The Old Republic. Talking about the game's content expansions up to date. "All of this and more in just 6 months." New companion characters, new species, char transfers, increased level caps and a whole new planet coming. Set a new standard for premium MMO service. This July, everyone can play up to level 15 for free.
Sneak Peek -- new space mission, new operation, new companion- it's HK, new species -- Cathar, new level cap and the new world. Expansion of the game's story lines. Looks like a solid expansion for sure. End.
1:24 - 1.6 trillion bullets fired since the game was launched. EA is driving to be the premiere digital content provider in the industry. Battlefield 3 Premium announced. All sorts of content. Members get access to four themed expansion packs. Giving shooter fans a lot to look forward to. Hundreds of hours of content coming over the next 9 months. Only costs $49.99 right now for 360, PS3 and PC players get it next week.
Here's a trailer for the upcoming premium content. All 5 expansions -- Return to Karkland, Close Quarters w/ two weeks early access, Armored Kill, again with early access, Aftermath: Fight for Survival and finally End game. Over 10 new vehicles, exclusive dog tags, more modes, new assignments, and all sorts of extra stuff. If you're a Battlefield 3 fan, this looks like an awesome deal. End.
1:23 - Congratulations to the two old Infinity Ward guys. Ooo damn. You didn't just do that, did you EA? Moving on the Battlefield 3.
1:18 - SimCity Social is coming to Facebook is Maxis' first announcement. Create your own city "with soul," and much like Farmville make friends to earn rewards. It actually looks a lot like Farmville, UI-wise. "It's a SimCity for everyone." Coming in the upcoming weeks.
Gameplay footage for the new actual SimCity, with its new GlassBox engine. Placing buildings and power lines is very well animated. You can see through the city to check pollution, water flow and traffic. Oh, they're showing multiplayer bits now -- competitive airport building? You can play with friends or take on a region of cities by yourself. Keeps it fresh with dynamic challenges.
Some sort of contest to name the game's burger joint. Gameplay trailer! Again, it looks very new and fresh with the cell-shading, but everything is animated t oo. Where once a simple menu pick and mouse click would do everything in-game, now there are cool animations to go along with that. Building floating on your mouse pointer until you decided to place them. Game looks great! End.
1:11 - New segment, Ray Lewis of the Ravens (NFL) is making a monologue. Madden NFL 13. "Two of the biggest game changers of the franchise." Infinity Engine delivers realtime physics, no two plays look exactly the same. Engine considers a player's mass, momentum, and everything creates a dramatic effect.
Connected careers creates one connected universe in the game. Introducing a guest... Michael Irvin is on stage, hall of famer! He's talking about taking small steps. Climbing the mountain is one thing, but residing at the mountain peak is another.
You can create or join a league with up to 32 other players. You can be a player or a coach. Each participant will have achievements that upgrade your "Legacy Score" and improve your performance on-field. There's even a virtual Twitter feed... Access your Connected Career via mobile at any time. It's not just about the game on Sunday, it's about constant reevaluation. Both dudes exit stage right, and that's the end of the Madden demo. Next, MAXIS!
1:05 - Visceral Games rep comes out on stage to talk about Dead Space 3... and my stream is lagging like crazy. A live co-op demo is now starting. It's a duo with both Isaac and new character Carver. There's a huge drill, and it seems like a horde-mode style event going on around this giant metal thing. They destroy the robot drill and a door opens to continue.
The two are now outside doing some standard co-op, cover-based action. It doesn't look like Dead Space alt all... honestly it looks a lot like Lost Planet. A huge monster comes up over the edge of the cliff. Isaac and his partner are mowing down some adds and firing at the monster's weak spot.
The monster breaks the cliff, both players fall into darkness. Isaac wakes up in some sort of orifice and is swallowed by it. He's not swimming in the monster's innards. Well, that's gross. "I'll tell you one things... those guys aren't gettin' out the same way they got in." End.

1:04 - "This isn't just some planet, Isaac. We found th SOURCE!" Spaceship crashes on said planet, monsters everywhere! Snowy, exciting planet. Trailer ends.
1:02 - "Less like the Oscars, more like Sundance." EA's conference has begun! 10 games presented by their developers. Games have evolves from the disc that you buy to the place that you go. Making the case for post-release DLC. HEY IT'S DEAD SPACE 3!
12:50 - No signs of life from the livestream yet! It's just an ad for Origin.
