I wish they would do Battlefront 3. But since this is supposedly a new franchise, I doubt that is what it is.
So I'm fresh out of ideas. Any ideas on where they could go with a SW franchise that isn't too well-trodden?

It would have to be Battlefront 3. Force Unleashed is a dead series after the second game failed horribly (4 hour game... seriously).

Lucasarts also went on to recently state they were no longer going to be using >any< 3rd party developers for any of their games. That does not, however, mean that they would be creating a game from scratch.

Last we heard from Battlefront 3 was game data secretely included on the Slant Six developed Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City game disc. It contained model data for characters, including Rebel-Pilot uniform Luke Skywalker (Hoth), game data for a Hoth stage, and also loading screen splash pages for a Hoth stage which included on the images a description of the game mode you were about to play, which also verified rumors that Slant Six was one of the several studios that had worked on a Battlefront game.

Lucasarts may be polishing up the data they developed to finish the game. This would also mean that Battlefront 3 will run on the same Hexane game engine. Read what Capcom's REORC producer Mike Jones stated:

“Slant Six one cooperative four-player playable prototype has super fast on its feet using a proprietary technology – Hexane is their engine and they will soon offer it for licensing…” He adds:. “The engine has its roots in SOCOM, what multiplayer, online, etc. As you have a very strong line-skeleton and a prototype developed for our internal team at Capcom in Osaka took half a year, would they have accomplished in just one month! ”

(Mind the broken English, not sure if that info is straight from Mike)

If Slant sold Lucasarts on the game engine, then we're likely going to see Battlefront 3 either as an online type game (PSN/XBL, saving tons of money otherwise used to distribute) that may serve as a shell for many online expansions, bit by bit via DLC.

Whle I would prefer an actual retail game disc, Lucasarts is going through some pretty crazy financial problems right now and really needs to pull out their big gun to pull them out of the water AND finally get it produced. No more stupid bad calls that result in the closure of mostly awesome game studios (Free Radical).

GET BATTLEFRONT DONE. GET IT ON PEOPLES CONSOLES (and pc), DONT EVER DOUBT AWESOME DEVELOPERS AGAIN. And most importantly, DONT LET THE STUPID SUITS MAKE THESE CALLS IN THE FIRST PLACE. Let QA determine if there's a winner on your hands, not some idiot that manages your wallet.

Kinnect SW, you freakin' disappoint me. =_=

Raijin1999 I heard Force Unleashed was short, but damn, four hours is... pretty awful.
I've the misfortune of clinging to long-dead franchises like Republic Commando and KOTOR. The former is never going to be revived because of the Clone Wars cartoon, and SWTOR pretty much sealed the deal for KOTOR. /sigh

Forgot to mention the hexane game engine has crazy support for multiple light sources. This is evident in REORC, and many of the game's light bulbs and streetlamps could be shot out. The effect all that light had on the moonlit streets of Raccoon City and it's oddball museum-like set pieces (look at you RCPD) was pretty awesome. Now just imagine that with all the laser fire from a battlefront game.

Ah, server sync is off. Your message just appeared before mine when it was just a double post. lol

Yeah, Force Unleashed was actually decent but the campaign ended up running short for the same reasons Battlefront 3 originally went under -- the suits pulled the plug. Think they even fired the game director before he finished the game. It's like suddenly you're playing the game and just getting into it and then bam, Vader fight and it's over. It did, however, leave the game open for another but after the piss poor reception of force unleashed 2 I doubt they'd consider that as a draw for a third game. They basically weakened the brand name and need to go back to something greater at this point.
(And Indy just isn't going to cut it, even if you can get past nuking the fridge)

Republic Commando was awesome. They still could make a sequel though set under Storm Troopers. "Imperial Commando" or something.

LOL, but of course then you wouldn't be able to shoot and aim anything unless you had the option of taking TK-421's helmet off.

Oh yeah, some folks found a reference to the 1313 thing as being a past alias used by Boba Fett. However, it could also be the release date of Jan 3, 2013.

Raijin1999 I mentioned the Boba Fett connection here, in the original report (link also in the article). http://www.neoseeker.com/news/19066-lucasfilm-trademarks-star-wars-1313-file-suggests-new-video-game/

But you're right about a date reference. Hadn't even thought of that.

Something that incorporated the entire star wars galaxy would be sick. You can do anything nowadays size wise because of cloud storage and such

W.e happened to star wars flying games? Battle for naboo and all the rogue squadron games were awesome but there hasn't been any star wars flight sims since, with the size and scope of games like skyrim they could make truly massive battles in a battlefront esque sort of way but also as a flight sim

In my opinion, games that are meant for flight only get bland. If they have flight as a major part, they should also include ground combat. Look at Starhawk. That game blended the two very well (and added the awesome build and battle feature).
They could do a game where you take control of a pilot that takes missions, which occasionally take him to the ground for battles as well.
