In case you were running out of free-to-play options, Sony Online Entertainment will soon be publishing a new free online shooter, Bullet Run. Due for summer release, the upcoming team-based multiplayer FPS is being developed by German studio ACONY Games.
Bullet Run's premise reads similar to that of Uber Entertainment's Monday Night Combat series, only with less bacon. In the near future, a reality TV game show pits contestants -- literally called "Contestants" -- against one another in brutal team match-ups. Players will be able to customize their own Contestants to take into battle, and we're assuming this is where much of the game's microtransaction system is based.
So what happens when Contestants die in Bullet Run? They're brought right back to life using "Synth" technology, which produces a new body for the participants to fight in until a match is over. Guess that's as convenient an explanation as any.
Regarding the shooter's backstory, ACONY co-founder Frank Trigub comments:
"We believe the sexier, media-driven storyline sets it apart from other FPS games and will continue to attract new players who might be tired of the same military shooters."
"Sexier" isn't the first word that comes to my mind, but hey, it works. The official site does mention a possible beta, but no details on that have been announced yet.
