Ubisoft will be holding a two-week multiplayer beta for Far Cry 3 on consoles this summer, and the first details have been announced -- including what to expect in the beta and how the heck to get in.
As of now, the closed beta is an invitation-only affair. How does one go about acquiring such an invite? One option is to pick up Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for either Xbox 360 or PS3 from GameStop, though you'll also have to be a PowerUp Rewards member to receive the beta invite. That invite code can then be redeemed online, though the site won't be active until May 22. GameStop will then email the keys once the beta goes live.
Your other option is to hit up the Far Cry Facebook page, though only five beta keys are being given away by this method. Still worth a shot, if you're really aching to try the multiplayer without having to drop $60 on another game. Ubisoft did note that they'll be throwing out beta keys randomly through other "social channels," including the official Ubisoft and Far Cry 3 websites.
As for what's in the beta, expect 16-player matches, six classes, and a number of different modes and maps. Specifics are a little scant right now, but we do know the Firestorm mode will be playable during the beta period.
Far Cry 3 will be released in North America come September 4.
