Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition exceeds 1M sales in five days

Players rack up millions of hours in game time

Xbox gamers just love Minecraft, as the console version of Mojang's highly successful little adventure flies past the 1 million downloads in just five days.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition actually made a profit within 24 hours of release, selling over 400k units in that time. One weekend and three business days later, and that number rests above 1 million. Notch must be so proud.

LIVE activity records also show that folks are really into the game, as the community racks up more than 5.2 milliion hours of online mining. Players have also played over 4 million multiplayer sessions, totaling over 2.4 million hours of multiplayer shenanigans.

I'm one of them. I was a little skeptical about spending $20 on a 111mb game but it was worth it.

So that's pretty much $16 million earned in 5 days.. If let's say Microsoft is getting about 30% of that Mojang are walking away with about $11.2 million of that. If you add that to the other $60+ million Notch already earned from the PC version of Minecraft then they are one rich indie studio.

Jeeze. I remember playing Minecraft way back when it was only creative mode and survival mode was still in the works. I never would've thought it would have come anywhere near this. Damn it, Notch. How do you do it?
