Origin takes a lot of heat for just about everything EA does, but this fairly new digital delivery service is certainly paying off. Since its 2011 launch, the Origin community now sits at roughly 11 million members, and the service has raked in $150 million in non-GAAP revenue over the previous fiscal year (March 31, 2011 through April 2012), EA reported during a financial call today.
After a rocky start with a suspiciously worded TOS, followed by endless reports of horrible customer service and bugs leading to accidental charges, many resolved to never touch EA's digital platform.
The publisher recently turned to those 11 million for feedback on how to better improve the Origin platform. In an unexpected move, EA is also releasing an "indie bundle" through their biggest competitor, Steam.
