THEY ARE NOT USING HERO ENGINE. Really tired of people saying that. They have built their own so it will allow 250 people on the screen. However they are using the hero engine to prototype somethings while their engine is being tested. People need to pay attention to the interviews and update their sites

What exactly does non real time entail? WoW combat?
Basically. Timed attacks, instead of button mashing or mouse clicking combos.

I don't know anything about hero engine, but I just hope they let you play controlling your character, and not one of those games where you control from above.
The 'Hero Engine' is the standard MMO engine, really. Generic MMO Gameplay ahoy!

BTW: It's the same engine that The Old Republic uses, if you have played that or know what the gameplay is like.

You know what, looking at it more, I think I can dig this. The art style reminds me a LOT of Morrowind, and I absolutely loved the shit out of that game.

Ha! What a joke! This is NOT the game people were expecting when an Elder Scrolls MMO was announced.

Why aren't imperials available? Let me guess, they'll be added into a future expansion?
Nope, seems they are heavily integrated into the story line according to the info from IGN.

quote IGN
The fourth, non-playable alliance / faction will be the antagonist of The Elder Scrolls Online. Imperials work with the noble Tharn Family to bring Tamriel back under Imperial Rule. Weakened from constant wars in Cyrodiil, these two form a pact with Mannimarco, King of Worms, who promises to reanimated the fallen soldiers to keep fighting for control.

Unbeknownst to the Imperials and Tharn Family, Mannimarco is really working with the Daedric Prince Molag Bal to rule over Tamriel themselves.

The only thing I'm looking forward to is Elsweyr. It is by far the most interesting region according to the lore.

Imperials would come from the PVP zone, so that might be why they're not included.

well, despite all the negativity I'm really excited. It's been a long time since I played WoW, and even though I really enjoyed it I haven't been able to get back into the game. Elder Scrolls is my favorite series, game world, lore, everything. So even if it is just WoW in Tamriel I will play and thoroughly enjoy the game. Excited to see all the other provinces that haven't been used in a long time. I'll be a day one player, bugs and all.

This still looks like it could be hit-or-miss if you ask me. It could be amazing, but it could also totally suck.

Agh, I hate those skill bars. They make the action difficult to see, and they're always very ugly.

I hope it isn't one of those click and go, click and attack MMOs. Surely they'll let you at least take control of your own character from their perspective....

I probably won't want to try it if it is like the above type games.

But actually, I might try it anyway. I'm a big geek for ES lore, and they let you visit a lot of the cities you couldn't visit in older games. (Or it had generic randomly generated detail)
