Due to a restructuring at publisher SEGA, a sequel to Platinum Games' Bayonetta has reportedly been canceled.
Spong's sources, who are apparently familiar with the situation, stated that Bayonetta 2 had, at one stage, been in development. The title featured a new character stemming from the United States military.
The cancellation of the game is due to SEGA's restructuring, leading to redunancies to both its American and European offices. The financially troubled publisher was relectunt to shift their structure due to disappointing commercial performance during the last fiscal year. As a result, a variety of games were seemingly cancelled.
After garnering positive reception from critics upon its January 2010 release, Bayonetta's subsequent sales solidified the game's success, selling over 1.1 million copies in just over a month following launch.
