Questions, questions, questions surround the Heart of the Swarm expansion to StarCraft 2. One of the most wide-spread and and popular e-sports in the world, and you're going to add an expansion to it before its reached maximum potential? Restart the battle of balance, throw away professional gamers' strategies and start anew? It'd be difficult to do, but it looks like Blizzard is ready to start testing the waters.
A demo of Heart of the Swarm will be playable at a number of public consoles at the MLG Pro Spring Championship. The Anaheim event takes place in June, and will be one of the largest e-sports events of the year.
Considering that Blizzard is releasing both Diablo 3 and the World of Warcraft expansion Mists of Pandaria this year, perhaps Heart of the Swarm is still a ways off. It wouldn't be surprising for Blizzard to start allowing gamers to acclimate to the expansion a long time in advance. You don't want to create a division in the competitive scene between vanilla and expansion tournaments. It would be terrible for both Blizzard and the rapidly evolving e-sports environment.
StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm has to come out sooner or later though, right? It should be exciting to finally see the game in action, no matter when its release is.
