Update: Okay, so we doubted whether Stoic would be able to reach the $700K mark, but we're eating those words today as The Banner Saga Kickstarter winds to a close. With 75 minutes left, the project now has a whopping $717,759 in crowd funds.
As promised, we'll be seeing console ports of the PC/Mac game, and the team is adding in player-run, upgradable cities.
When three former Star Wars: The Old Republic developers left BioWare Austin to form Stoic Games, they looked to the community to fund their first project, an ambitious (and gorgeous) strategy title, The Banner Saga.
The team's goal was originally $100,000 -- a modest amount by today's blockbuster standards. Still, they insisted their budget was sufficient for their goals, perhaps not realizing how much money gamers are willing to hand over in the interest of seeing a really good game made. Over the last month, Banner Saga's Kickstarter page has accumulated almost $650,000 in crowd funds. As of this moment, their budget sits at $649,222 with 24 hours left.
And get this: Stoic is promising to bring Banner Saga to XBLA and PSN if they hit the $650K mark. Should they wind up at $700K, Stoic will include upgradable cities, a feature originally cut from the game. If you'd like to contribute, hit up their Kickstarter page.
