Halo 4 may be the biggest console release left in 2012, barring your annual Call of Duty slapdash. Thus it's our responsibility to keep you updated on everything that might or might not be associated with Master Chief's big return.
What do we have here? It looks like Microsoft is registering domain names associated with Halo Infinity, such as HaloInfinity.net and HaloInfinityMultiplayer.com. The domains are currently unassociated with a site.
Whatever could Infinity be? We have some possible ideas:
- Simply a multiplayer map, much like the PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved's map named... Infinity. The map Warhouse was revealed via Halo Waypoint last week though, and no associated domain was registered.
- A reference to the UNSC Infinity, a ship built with Covenant technology after the war on Earth. The ship was built to fight off the Covenant should Earth fall, though that proved unnecessary. But how does a ship relate to multiplayer?
- A full-on spin-off title. Another strategy game, an iOS companion app, or how about a Halo RPG?
- A new support system introduced in Halo 4 -- i.e. a brand for a matchmaking system, or maybe just an associated website like Waypoint that provides statistics or community support.
The only other loose reference would be Bungie's game Marathon Infinity. The Marathon trilogy was the original inspiration for Halo, but since Bungie is not longer associated with the franchise this is just worth mentioning, but not extrapolating on.
Whatever Halo Infinity is, it likely isn't worth all this conjecture... unless it is! Ahh, whatever could it be?
