Orcs Must Die! 2 adding cooperative play, releasing this summer
More Orcs Must Die, Orcs Must Die Again, Orcs Must Die with a Vengeance
Orcs Must Die! is an action-strategy defense title that pits players against enless waves of, well, orcs, using a variety of traps and spells. Unforunately, the game had no cooperative play, a feature almost expected from similar titles. This feature gap is now planned to be remedied in Orcs Must Die! 2, newly announced by Robot Entertainment for release later this summer.
Opting to build a full sequel rather than simply an expansion pack or a cooperative patch for the original game, Robot plans to make it worth fans' while. The extra development time, and the cost difference between DLC and full retail (the original game costs a scant $15) will bring about a full campaign, fresh enemies, new traps, weapons, trinkets and spells, and a completely redesigned upgrade system.
Still, cooperative play in Orcs Must Die! 2 is currently limited to two players, there's only two selectable heroes (the War Mage and the Sorceress), the engine doesn't look to have been upgraded, and quite frankly the new maps still don't look unique or notable. It almost appears as if Orcs Must Die! 2 is trying to meet a level of qualitty set by competitor Dungeon Defenders and not quite getting there.
Check out the announcement trailer below and let us know what you think of the upcoming PC exclusive sequel. Also, be sure to check Orcs Must Die! 2 out if you're going to PAX East, as the game will have a playable version at hand.
