Kid Icarus: Uprising saw international launch earlier this week, but the 3DS franchise revival has already enjoyed a few extra days on the market in Japan where it was received quite warmly. In fact, by Media Create's reckoning, Kid Icarus was the top selling game in Japan for the week ending March 25th.
Nintendo's wise decision to with partner with Japanese animation studios Production I.G., Shaft and STUDIO4°C for special promotional animated shorts helped win the company win some cred both with enthusiasts and the mainstream. The 3DS title would fare better during its first week on market than Devil May Cry HD Collection and Ninja Gaiden 3, both which also launched on the same day Kid Icarus did in Japan.
Meanwhile Black Panther 2, Sega's latest Yakuza spin-off title for the PSP, did win over enough consumers in Japan last week to secure a second place finish on the Media Create software top ten.
