Heard this rumour on the new xbox (supposebly) all the same Idk what to think about it :/
I can see it happening but I doubt it will since even finding new games a year or more after the fact at retailers and such is hard for me -.-
time to get the all knowing board (squeegee board I think lol) just need two more people.

If this is true, the PS4 just committed suicide in terms of sales, in my opinion

I'm almost 100% sure that PlayStation 4 has no backward compatibility...Just look at PlayStation 3 history, Sony ditched it after about seven months of release...I'm glad that my PS3 can play PS2 games

Remember PS3 has a 10 years life cycle, SCEI wants to milk it as much as they possibly and economically can; the beginning of PS4 will be almost like the onset of PS3 in 2007; history repeats itself after all; all of the classic PS3 games will be re-sell at rip-off price on PSN again, be prepared to re-purchase even if you bought it some weeks/months ago!!!

Interestingly, a compulsory internet connection (?) can be a rumour, because not every PS3 console is connected to the PSN or online...SCEI fully knows that and it will be like a suicide for SCEI if the PlayStation 4 console has some mandatory internet connection to start or play games...

Most importantly, SCEI think that games are for one-off sales; that's totally wrong; and those greedy marketing teams and console financiers and CEOs want to kill a second-hand market for PS3 and PS4 games...

Well, it's not as easy as they think; first of all, second-hand games are much cheaper than so-called cheap games on PSN which is just a nascent place for online digital sales overall. SCEI wants to expand PSN control all over the games with the help of PlayStation 4...What a futile idea!!!

Second of all, 'free trade' and 'individual choice' are the hallmarks of capitalism, if SCEI wants to kill 'second-hand market' for its games, then be prepared to 'LOSE' all, and be prepared to 'DIE' altogether (both game console and software companies and retail industry)!!!! What a ridiculous idea to control a second-hand market!!!

I'm sure that SCEI had learnt some good lessons from PlayStation 3 back in 2007...Above all, if SCEI wants to constrain individual choice by imposing some restrictions with PSN, it'll be worse than communist control of internet!!!!!!!!!!!! And, ultimately, a compulsory PSN connection for gameplay won't last long in reality!!!...The ability to choose services must be within the capability of individual gamers, not within the control of some digital cloud called PSN!!!!!

Awkward choice, IBM has been a leader in delivering CPU power for quite some time and even used core technology they developed to create the Cell with Sony. :/ I really don't see AMD in it's current shape putting out something that can keep up even remotely especially when it comes to multithreaded delivery.

No backwards compatibility makes sense though, you can't just go from PPC to x86 as they're completely different platforms. The 360 and PS3 struggled with ports using software emulation to go from x86 and the EE.

You also hit optimized code for NVIDIA getting in the way when trying to go over to an ATI GPU, MS hit this issue as well with heavily optimized code for certain games making it impossible to port over.

The whole thing sounds like a mess or a bad rumor though, technology wise the only perk would be the GPU but even then it could be a 7700 series or lower for all we know at this point which perform pretty bad at default spec.

if these rumours prove true one day, yeah I'll do the same as you
This on the other hand seems so foreign to me >.> can't the game companies just try to claim royalties on all their sold games in stores? lol
Yeah you won't get the same amount of money as new but still a profit -.- If this happens stores like eb and gamestop also lose revenue I would think.
Maybe a meeting of the minds here would help so that both don't go down this road lol.

Sorry, just for Pete's sack, they can't. I had enough when the PS3 couldn't go backwards, you had to buy it.

Not like I care about the backwards compatibility, since I have a heap of PS3 games I *obviously* have a PS3 to play them on already.

The internet thing could be a potential pain-in-the-ass but I can deal with that, my net here is pretty good.

And I don't buy Used Games.

So woo PS4.
