Finnish developer Rovio Entertainment, best known for creating the unbelievably successful Angry Birds, has acquired also-Finnish studio Futuremark Games Studio, the gaming branch of benchmarking software dev Futuremark.
Rovio CEO Mikael Hed welcomed the studio with a few encouraging words:
“They are an incredibly talented and experienced team, and we are thrilled to have them on board. Rovio’s success is founded on the excellence of our team, and Futuremark Games Studio is going to be a superb addition.”
Futuremark Game Studios is assuring their fanbase that the developer still holds the rights to their IPs Shattered Horizon, Hungribles, and Unstoppable Gorg, and it doesn't sound like their role will change much under Rovio. This year, Futuremark is planning a new version of 3DMark that will allow "a direct comparison of gaming performance across operating systems and form factors," plus a new version of PCMark for Windows 8.
This is actually Rovio's second acquisition in the past year, with Kombo Animation Studio joining Rovio last summer.
