This looks really awesome! How much might a display like that cost though?

The first generation consumer model will cost well into the thousands, I'm sure. I wouldn't be surprised at $10K for a relatively small screen, really. The 'internal 3D grid' business sounds expensive, at least.

Perhaps it is more an issue with getting the software right than the cost of the hardware. Still, if it's the only one of its type on the market they'll put it for the highest price point they think they can manage, for as long as they can manage regardless.

Almost certainly. This sort of tech has been in the works since those old sci-fi films came up with the idea. However I believe this is the first working prototype seen so far.

So we're that much closer to having tablets like the ones seen in Avatar?

Yes. Once an idea is int he developers heads they want to make it. However it may take them a long time to produce a working model. like this 3d screen has probably been in the works for 40 years. Just until now they never managed to get it to work. But as we get advances ion technology we can step further and further into the sci-fi worlds we see in films like avatar.
